The Moment of blossom

Latent Geometry
Solo Exhibition
Inga Gallery, Tehran, Iran.
2019

The spatial aesthetics of a place is a superficial layer of that culture. Plastering in Iran has a long
history (about 500 BC) which still adorns Iranian architecture. In the past, artists illustrated their
own imaginary world with Islamic geometric and vegetal motifs that were the implicit meaning of
these artworks. A latent geometry that was a pattern of order behind a multiplicity and they called it “spiritual geometry”.

Today’s plastering has greatly distanced from the original one. That handwork has faded and been replaced by casting molds created for large numbers of reproductions. In this collection, I’ve used reproduced plaster molds and some techniques that I learned from construction workers, which were mostly the opposite of what I was taught at the University.
My endeavor to find meaning in contemporary plastering has been similar to finding the depth in shallow, the same as my daily struggle to find my roots in the culture that is vanishing; a process that has had great consequences on the quality of living on that geography.
